Birth trauma looks different for everybody. If you had a birth experience that left you feeling disempowered, helpless, scared, anxious, depressed or guilty- this is birth trauma.

Too often women believe their experience wasn’t ‘bad enough’ to be labelled trauma or traumatic. They may be told by health professionals, friends and family that ‘the baby is healthy and that’s all that matters’. This comment is invalidating and untrue.

What matters is what false beliefs or core wounds were activated by the experience.

During your birthing process did you believe:

  • “I’m alone”,

  • “I’m helpless”

  • “I’m out of control”,

  • “my needs aren’t valid”

  • “Im not safe”

These are all examples of core beliefs associated with trauma. They lead to feelings of guilt, overwhelm and anxiety.

Sometimes these core beliefs manifest as physical sensations. When you reflect on your birth you may feel

  • hot

  • empty or numb

  • panicked

  • nauseous

  • foggy or confused

These bodily sensations are indicators that your nervous system is storing trauma.

This trauma whether it be psychological or physiological in nature is just trapped energy- it can be shifted, transformed and released.

You do not have to enter this new stage of parenthood carrying guilt, overwhelm or shame.

Together we can work through whatever has arisen for processing and move into a new way of relating to the experience and yourself.

You and your baby are worthy of healing.
